LA Philharmonic Orchestra
LA Phil at 100
From 1962 to 1978, Music Director Zubin Mehta helped establish the LA Phil’s reputation as experimentalists. But the 1976 premiere of John Cage’s challenging Apartment House 1776 required a little outside assistance from a beloved comedian…Danny Kaye.
We had the pleasure to be a part of a series of animations commissioned by the LA Philharmonic Orchestra to celebrate the centennial of, “America’s most important orchestra.”
Inspired by the incredibly abstract, iconic jazz posters of the past, we wanted to create something that felt as impressionistic as the Apartment House 1776 score, while also having the inherent charm of Danny Kaye.
